Parc de Wilhelmshöhe / Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe

D’une surface de 350 hectares, il fut aménagé à partir de 1701, sous le landgrave Charles. De style baroque, il fut transformé en jardin anglais dans la seconde moitié du 18ème siècle. Des temples, des pavillons, des grottes et des ruines artificielles sont dispersés dans le parc qui compte 800 (?) essences d’arbres.

Château de Löwenburg

Construit conformément aux projets de Heinrich Christoph Jussow entre 1793 et 1800 (1801 ?). Imitation d'un château médiéval anglais, ruine artificielle, néogothique, il témoigne d'un goût certain pour le sentimentalisme romantique.

Le château a été très endommagé pendant la seconde guerre mondiale : Kassel / Cassel étant un centre industriel d'armement important, la ville fût sévèrement bombardée (22-23 Octobre 1943, près de 10 000 morts, la ville brûla durant 7 jours, centre-ville détruit à 95%).
